On the palate, the wine has good acidity, slight citrus fruit notes and a long aftertaste. It pairs well with fish tartar, ceviche, salad, pasta, rice dishes.

James Suckling: 92 Points

"A beautiful rose as always with a pink salmon color. It opens with rose petals, pink guava, grapefruit, mandarins and freshly squeezed nectarines. Medium-bodied and very salty on the palate. Lithe and oily texture, but a sharp acid backbone. Macabeo, grenache and tempranillo. Drink now."

Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points

"A stony, fresh nose is clean as a whistle, while this feels medium to full, with a faint skin-driven texture and citrus-laden acidity. Orange and nectarine flavors are bright and fairly deep, while it remains alert across a snappy finish."

Vintage, Vinification & Technical Information

Fermentation: After 4-5 hours of maceration in the press, the must is fermented for 15-20 days in small wooden vats at a controlled temperature of about 16-18ºC. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, it remains with its fine lees in suspension for a further 12 weeks, in order to heighten its organoleptic qualities, especially its smooth mouth feel.

Grape(s): Garnacha with 25% Viura and 5% Tempranillo

Alcohol: 13.5%

Winery Profile

About the Winery: Bodegas Muga is a family firm founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño. The first wines were made in an underground cellar, until in 1968 they decided to set up their own winery in a beautiful old 19th-century town-house situated in the city of Haro. The Bodegas Muga outstanding feature is that it always uses the finest materials, combining tradition with the latest advances in winemaking so as always to give its wines the very best quality without losing authenticity. Indeed, it is the only wine cellar in Spain which employs its own master cooper and coopers, who make all the vats for the cellar as well as the oak casks. The winery remains true to traditional winemaking methods such as racking the casks by gravity and fining the wine with fresh egg whites. Bodegas Muga has succeeded in combining the purest family tradition with an updated vision of the future which has allowed them to preserve their own personality and character.
